How to get your music discovered.

There are millions of Musicians across the world that love the instrument they play and the music they create. The reason for their love is simple: music gives them freedom to express themselves. It opens avenues to express a gamut of emotions. From the most intense happiness, to the depths of despair, to an incredible love story, to simply having fun, playing music can take you anywhere. A drummer can lay down a beat that he can jam for hours. A pianist can play the smoothest jazz that can relax anyone. To speak from my own case, playing the guitar gives me the ability to melt away all the stresses of life. At times, I feel that it is the best way for me to express myself and how I’m feeling. Most of the time, like most other musicians, I only play for myself.
While all musicians enjoy expressing themselves through their music, there are many artist who want to share their music with others. The question is, how do I share my music with the world? Before the rise of the internet, there were countless barriers keeping musicians from being heard, mostly the ability to take ones music to the masses.
Since the rise of the internet, the ability to discover new artist exploded. At first, bands created websites, then came the selling of digital music. More recently, videos on Youtube, Myspace, and Facebook helped bands or musicians network socially, while allowing people to see a visual image of the new band or artist.
The problem that has come up more recently is the flood of videos of musicians on the internet not worth watching. For every talented musician worth listening to, it seems that there are 100 other terrible artist that you have to sort through to get to that one. With Youtube and Myspace having so many artist, how can you browse through videos to find new music worth watching? New video sharing websites, such as Band of Me, have been created to allow musicians and fans to easily browse videos by instrument and genre of music. For example, one can chose to only watch guitar videos, drum videos, piano videos, bass videos, DJ videos, or music videos of bands. If one would rather browse by genre, the user can browse by rock, country, folk, jazz, punk, classical, and so on. This site helps musicians connect with other talented musicians, as well. For example, a rock guitarists can browse the rock bass videos or rock drum videos to find an artist they want to connect with in their local community.
Sites like these are for musicians and fans to have their voice heard and connect with other musicians or fans. So if you are a musician or a fan, get connected in the world of music. You’d be surprised how many people are out there wanting to be connected with you.
